About four days ago, I finished Wide Awake by David Levithan. His book Boy Meets Boy was amazingly well written and his collaboration with Rachel Cohn called Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist is my all time favorite YA romance novel.
In the near future, a gay Jewish man named Abe Stein will become president.
Or will he?
Duncan is a passionate supporter of his candidate who shares his religious beliefs and sexual orientation. When major votes in Kansas are declared invalid by the opposing party, Duncan, his boyfriend, Jimmy and their close friends rally together to go to Kansas to support Stein. But soon, relationships come into question, and things turn to disaster.
This was a beautiful book. Levithan's writing style is gorgeous, so I knew I was going to love this novel. While reading I got all nostalgic over YA for Obama and just the entire Obama campaign. I loved the feeling of being a part of something bigger than myself. Levithan weaved Duncan and his friends' relationships and politics perfectly. My favorite part of this novel was definitely the relationship between Duncan and Jimmy. While I'm a massive cynic their relationship was so sweet I couldn't help but smile multiple times throughout the novel. Fantastic book and by far my favorite David Levithan novel.
