July 5, 09 Pieces of Me by Charlotte Gingras

Okay, my aunt from Vancouver is coming today and I am freaking out because I have book camp tomorrow and I have to do secret things and I am going to be so busy. Anyways, after that minor freak attack, I'd like to review Pieces of Me.

Pieces of Me is about Mira, a fifteen year old, shy, animal and nature loving girl. Mira's mom is mentally ill and she hates her father. Mira has felt lonely her whole life, so when a new girl comes to school, she starts to discover who she is and who she wants to be.

I really enjoyed this book. It got the Governor General Award, which is pretty impressive. It was originally in French and was translated to English this year. I liked Mira, I thought the writing was well done, and despite it only being a hundred or so pages, I got a strong sense of Mira's character. There were two bizarre parts that I didn't enjoy, but typically my brain gets all fuzzy when I read something short. Overall, pretty good.

Emma Out!

  1. Kool. Well, I don't know about this one...

  2. This one sounds really good! I hate when things get a bit weird in a book. :)

  3. It's a bit strange Taschima, so I'd brace myself. Still worth reading, though.

So do I, Kristen. I only like the good weird. :D

  4. Haha, my brain gets fuzzy after reading short books too.
